Fare Well Speach For The Students

portraits of old, the cross without name

Halfway between Folder and Barrio de San Pedro. Towards this village. On the left side of the road. Camouflaged by the leaves, brambles and the brush, lies a battered old cross. Of those who, for years, filled the cemeteries of many people in Spain. Forged iron with a small white porcelain plate in the center. Is this a cross with no name, no date, or even a simple epitaph. Only a veiled complaint or threat, expressing outrage non-contained: "steal the stone and break it now. Poor people there. Ladrones" .

They

neighbors, young and old who, until two decades ago, was in that place "pretty" stone cross shape rounded, with a small drawing, carving or cross in the center. It was, they say the elderly, a cross old "was always there" . Some believe to remember that was inscribed with a date in Roman numerals. Nobody can tell. What they do know and remember with precision is that a cold winter morning, someone took the stone cross. Maybe now serves as a coat stand in good or complete home treasures who knows what private collection ... Instead, a resident of Barrio San Pedro, placed the iron, but who or what to remember those crosses?

legend or theory extended muuuuuuuuuuuchos says it does, muuuuuuuuuuuchos years ... in times of great-Aunt of Paca or even before, a man whose name is unknown accruing wandered for months through the region. Someone who was born with ill fortune, or perhaps someone a disgrace forever condemned to exile for the homeless. "Poor" , count, "a bum" , who wandered for alms houses and livelihood. A man with nothing to give and nothing to lose, who suffered, yes, the harsh winter in the mountains and ice killed at the roadside between Folder and neighborhood San Pedro. Some neighbors charitable, pious soul, or perhaps someone who knew the true story of the beggar, placed there in his memory, the stone cross.

Some people just do not believe this story, "a poor - say - not brought a cross so luxurious" . Maybe ... Perhaps it was not just a car accident or the result of a brawl. Perhaps this cross, with Roman numerals, not someone but something remembered. Maybe it was just a brand, a milestone, a cruise or a shrine ... You'll probably never, ever, get to unravel the mystery of the cross. Like so many other stories of the oral tradition of our people continue to pass down through families, from grandparents to grandchildren ... until, in one way or another, end up lost in the trunk full of memories.
